The scene till date: You have loved your dog and cared for him/her. You have played with him/her as a puppy, woken up to the endless licks on your face, and had to indulge in endless cajoling to
stop endless barking sessions, and now you miss it all. Your dog is ageing and you must realize how difficult life can get for your four legged friend. There are certain things you need to put on the priority list in order to safeguard the ageing dogs’ interests.
Firstly spend a lot of time with your dog, just like before. He/she may not have the same enthusiasm to greet you each time you go in and out of the house. Roles have reversed and now it’s your chance to pet your dog every time you make an exit or entry.
Your dog is no longer going to swallow food. You need to make eating an enjoyable experience so keep your dog company at food time. This allows you to keep a close watch on the pets’ diet.
Make sure you don’t miss taking your pet for regular walks because this is fun time for the animal and permits maximum mobility.
In case you have a younger pet at home, make sure you don’t disregard the older dogs’ sentiment and give them both equal attention or your ageing friend will be depressed.
Visits to the vet will need to be increased so you can keep a check on the development of any conditions related to old age.
Make sure your ageing pet doesn’t have to eat alongside another pet. Being old, he/she can’t eat that fast any longer and this will result in less food consumption.
Last but not the least, always talk to your ageing pet and repeat actions that they have always loved. This makes them feel happy and cared for. Yelling at your dog constantly for no reason will only hurt their feelings.

Exercise Is Important Too!
An excellent article. One of the things many owners neglect to give their older dogs (as well as themselves for that matter) is regular exercise. They assume that because they're dog is older, that it will naturally become lazier and thus slower. This doesn't mean one should stop doing walks or playtime. If the owner does, then the dogs joints will stiffen, and metabolism will slow, and thus promote obesity.
